Hidden just around the corner from the Mountain Market in Schweitzer’s Village is Thor’s Pizza. My friends and I stopped by after a long day of being ski bunnies at the mountain for, in my opinion, the best pizza on the mountain. Thor’s was filled with people enjoying their pizza, beer and the scenic views from the large picture windows. Our group followed suit and ordered a pitcher of beer and an 8 slice cheese pizza for about $25. Thor’s also offers pizza by the slice ranging between $3 to $4, depending on your toppings. A selection of beers and sodas are also available to go along with their delicious pizza.

We moved over to a large bench style table in the back and waited for our pizza to arrive where we were greeted by a new friend, a dog who was very friendly and hung out with us for most of the time that we were there. Our pizza arrived and our new friend became much more interested in becoming our best friend as I think he was a pizza lover! After we talked the dog out of sharing our pizza we enjoyed the decor of neon lights, metal road signs, old sledges and football jerseys that adorn the walls below the parachute covered ceiling. The large windows give you a great view of the valley floor and Lake Pend Oreille from either the tables around the restaurant or the bar style tables next to the windows. Lots of kids were playing an arcade game while their parents enjoyed conversations or watching sports on the TV which gave Thor’s not only a family friendly environment but also a great place to eat with some friends.

We came by foot, but if you have skis or a board you can either leave them on the racks in front of the lodge or if there is room by the front door of Thor’s in the snow, however space there is limited. Parking can be found at one of the three main parking lots at the village or a park and ride at the bottom of the mountain is also available, where you will pay around $4 for a round trip on the Schweitzer bus. Most restaurants are seasonal at Schweitzer so it is always best to call ahead to check if they are open before you make the trip to the top of the mountain.

Directions to Thor’s Pizza: Take US hwy 95 to Schweitzer Cut-Off Road, turning left at the light (Wal-Mart will be on your right). Turn right at the T intersection on N. Boyer and go about a ½ mile where you will see the Schweitzer sign, turn left and follow the Schweitzer Mountain road about nine miles where you will reach the parking lot. If you want to park and ride on the bus to the top of the mountain, the parking lot is located on the left just after you turn on to Schweitzer Mountain Road, just before the railroad tracks.
