City Beach - Fun in The Sun in Sandpoint

Ever have the desire to get away? Maybe a trip to a beautiful beach in an exotic locale, maybe in Maui, Cancun, Sydney or some other fantastic area. Well this just might fill that need without all the expense of airfare, hotels, and everything else that is included with a long vacation. And where it might not be the beautiful warm beaches of Maui you can have the best of both worlds a great beach and the beauty of Northern Idaho. And where can you find this great place? Look no further than Sandpoint’s City Beach. As always I’m a huge fan of skipping out of work (of course by taking the day off and not just not showing up) so I decided to take the family out for a day of fun and sunshine.
We got there about 11 and being that is was on a Monday there were relatively few people there. We had two locations staked out, one on a table under the tree for grilling lunch and the other on the beach down by the sand. The water at this point was ice cold so we decided lunch was a better idea. We grilled up some burgers and enjoyed the large grass area with a Frisbee and a football. 
We also took some time to explore the park and found out it has two playgrounds, three sand volleyball courts, a basketball court and a concessions stand, as well as the boat launch, cruise boat area and picnic pavilion. By this time it was warmer out and we made our way back to the beach for some time in the water and where it was cold when you first got in and after a little while it was refreshing. As the day carried on it got very busy but since the beach makes a little peninsula there is plenty of room. There is also a walkway that juts out into the lake with a little statue of liberty that makes for a good photo op. There is a lot of parking but if you have gear to carry it would be better to go earlier to get a closer spot otherwise you might have to cart your gear. To find City beach just take 1st avenue to Bridge street (first right after the light) and that will lead you right into the park. No matter what you like to do the City Beach will keep you entertained, it does us.
