Hiking Trapper’s Trail at Round Lake State Park near Sandpoint Idaho
After strapping on our hiking shoes and filling up our water backpack, we headed south out of Sandpoint about 8 miles to Dufort Road. We turned right (west) onto Dufort and went about 2 miles to the entrance of the park on the left (the route there was well marked with appropriate signage). We paid our $4.00 entrance fee and headed on in to the day-use area. The sparkling water and soft sands of the lake tempted us – oh, if only it were a slight bit hotter! – but we stayed focused on the task at hand. Heading to the west side of the day-use area we found the trailhead for what is actually three trails. We opted to hike Trapper’s Trail, a trail that follows the lakeshore closely, with a small diversion down Cocolalla Creek.
A Shoe Tree, Huckleberries and Elkins Resort - a trip around Priest Lake
It had been years since I had been to Priest Lake and this year I had been begging my boyfriend to take me as he is pretty familiar with the lake, since he spent some of his childhood at the lake. He finally caved and we invited a few of our friends and headed over to Priest Lake
Picking Huckleberries in the Mountains — Sandpoint, Idaho
They have a certain je ne sais quois that I will either pay $40 a gallon for or walk around a hillside all day in the heat with mosquitoes dive-bombing my head to get.
The Long Bridge Swim - Sandpoint ID
Beauty abounds in Sandpoint as I think we are all aware of; but during the summer months often times we focus in on what we feel embodies that beauty: the lake. Pend Oreille Lake offers many refreshing activities when the mercury is rising outside. From boating and all the activities that inherently brings, to just [...]
Camping at Priest Lake - Idaho
Camping in North Idaho is such a perfectly easy thing no matter where you are, it seems like you are minutes away from great camping. We decided to get out of town and we quickly landed on Priest Lake. Less than 50 miles from Sandpoint this seemed like the perfect place for a weekend getaway.
Hydroplane Races Oldtown Idaho / Newport Washington
If you can race it, I will watch it. Needless to say when I was traveling to Spokane on a Saturday as we passed through Oldtown and Newport I looked down the Pend Oreille river and saw mini hydroplanes, I was beside myself. I knew they had a yearly hydroplane race and I had been to it when I was younger but as an adult I never remembered to look up the date
City Beach - Fun in The Sun in Sandpoint
Ever have the desire to get away? Maybe a trip to a beautiful beach in an exotic locale, maybe in Maui, Cancun, Sydney or some other fantastic area. Well this just might fill that need without all the expense of airfare, hotels, and everything else that is included with a long vacation. And where it might not be the beautiful warm beaches of Maui you can have the best of both worlds a great beach and the beauty of Northern Idaho. And where can you find this great place? Look no further than Sandpoint’s City Beach.
Staycation in Sandpoint Idaho
It seems like everywhere I go I hear grumblings about gas prices. And it’s all true, what people are saying. We are paying more for gas this summer than we did last summer. Good thing we weren’t planning any big trips this year, otherwise we’d have to tap into our retirement fund! Instead of a vacation this year, my family is taking a staycation! What’s a staycation, you may be asking yourself? It’s a period of time where we will stay at home and relax, explore our community, and take day trips – all within a short drive from home. We may decide to take a week off for our staycation, or we may just do it over several weekends. Here’s what we’re thinking about doing:
ArtWalk in Sandpoint, Idaho: A free exhibition of local artists
So we headed west on Cedar Street, stopping in at Pend Oreille Winery to view the artwork there. Here is where our adventure got a whole lot better (and no, not because we did wine-tasting!). We walked in to the winery, looked to the right, and all along a wall clearly displayed was artwork. And it was beautiful! And the artist was someone we know! We were so excited to finally see something wonderfully displayed, really allowing the focus to be on the art and not merchandise for sale. There was plenty of room for us to stand back and admire the art, and the salespeople left us alone (aside from a pleasant greeting) to contemplate the art.
